Laguna Niguel

WELCOME TO LAGUNA NIGUEL

Laguna Niguel is a scenic, upscale city in South Orange County, California, set among the rolling San Joaquin Hills just minutes from the coast. As one of California's very first master-planned communities, it has grown into one of the region's most prestigious and desirable places to live, known for its abundant open space, coastal-influenced climate, ocean and canyon views, and strong sense of community.

HISTORY

Laguna Niguel's name combines the Spanish word laguna (lagoon) with Nigueli, the name of an Acjachemen (Juaneño) village once located near Aliso Creek. The area's history traces back to the 1842 Rancho Niguel Mexican land grant awarded to Juan Avila, which later became part of the Moulton Company's expansive ranch holdings. In 1959, the Laguna Niguel Corporation, created by Cabot, Cabot & Forbes, began developing the approximately 7,100-acre property as one of California's first master-planned communities, guided by a visionary master plan from Victor Gruen and Associates. The first neighborhoods, Monarch Bay and Laguna Terrace, began selling homes in 1961, and after decades of carefully planned growth, residents voted overwhelmingly to incorporate Laguna Niguel as a city in 1989.

HOMES

Laguna Niguel offers one of the widest selections of homes in South Orange County. Buyers will find everything from condominiums and townhomes to mid-century ranch homes, spacious executive residences, and grand custom estates, many with sweeping city, canyon, and ocean views. Neighborhoods range from guard-gated luxury communities to established family-friendly tracts, with architectural styles that reflect the area's coastal Southern California character. This diversity makes Laguna Niguel appealing to buyers across a broad range of lifestyles and price points. Most of the city is served by ZIP code 92677, while a small portion along the southern edge shares the 92629 ZIP code with neighboring Dana Point.
